How do I read My Balances Screen?

 

Cash Balance: This section is static and reflects the individual's cash balance as of the previous business day at 4 pm.
Market Value: This is the market value of all of the positions held in the individual's account based on the previous day's closing price.
Total Equity: This is the total ammount of equity that the individual has in the account. In a cash account, it is the sum of the Cash Balance and the Market Value of the positions. In a margin account, it is the sum of the cash in the account and the market value of the positions that are actually owned in cash. Positions that are owned in margin are not added into total equity
Maint. Excess: In a cash account, Maint. Excess is basically the available cash in the account. In a margin account, Maint. Excess the amount of cash the individual has in their account above the required amount.
Buying Power: The buying power of a cash account is the available cash. The buying power of a margin account is both the cash available and the remaining amount that you can borrow to purchase securities.
